Srinagar, August 22: National Conference MP Aga Syed Ruhullah has questioned the Jammu and Kashmir government over the gap between the party’s election promises and its actions after coming to power, particularly on the issue of electricity.
Speaking to reporters, Ruhullah said the National Conference had promised voters during the elections that 200 units of electricity would be provided free of cost. However, he said the promise had still not been fulfilled even after two years.
He also referred to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s earlier remarks on electricity meters, saying that the promise to remove the meters had not materialised either.
Ruhullah said he understood the reasoning behind the installation of electricity meters, but questioned the government over the decision to increase power tariffs instead of providing the promised 200 free units.
He said the government should explain why consumers were facing a tariff hike of around seven per cent when the election promise was to provide 200 units of free electricity.
The NC MP also criticised some party workers whom he described as “sycophants” for questioning his continued association with the party whenever he raises concerns about the government.
Ruhullah said he would continue to speak on issues affecting the public and seek accountability from those in power.
He added that his political position was secondary to the trust he had among the people, saying that whether he remained within the National Conference or outside it, the support of the people remained most important to him.
