Srinagar, August 12: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha  led a Tiranga Yatra in Srinagar, with thousands of people participating in the patriotic march ahead of Independence Day. Describing the occasion as a “truly historic day,” Sinha said the Tricolour represents the country’s unity, strength and patriotism.

The rally was organised by the Jammu and Kashmir administration in collaboration with the Department of Culture under the nationwide ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign. It started from the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) and proceeded towards the Botanical Garden along the banks of Dal Lake.

Government officials, security personnel, school students, NCC cadets, war widows and local residents took part in the march. Participants carried the national flag and raised patriotic slogans along the route.

Addressing the gathering, Sinha said the Tricolour was flying high on the “sacred soil” of Srinagar and described it as a symbol of India’s living conscience. He said the echoes of “Vande Mataram” reflected the enduring spirit of the nation.

The rally route was decorated in the colours of the national flag. The Roads & Buildings Department carried out theme-based colouring of tree trunks, while the Srinagar Municipal Corporation installed national flags on electric poles.

The programme also included cultural performances, band presentations and the felicitation of war widows and war heroes. Theme-based stalls and exhibitions were also arranged at SKICC to showcase the campaign and engage visitors.

Security arrangements were strengthened at the venues and throughout the rally route, with personnel deployed to ensure the event was conducted smoothly.

The Tiranga Yatra forms part of Jammu and Kashmir’s participation in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga-2026’ campaign, aimed at encouraging widespread public participation in Independence Day celebrations.

Similar patriotic programmes and Tiranga rallies are also being organised across Srinagar, South Kashmir and North Kashmir by civil society groups, security forces and political organisations ahead of Independence Day.
