SRINAGAR, AUGUST 11: National Conference chief spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq on Tuesday called for greater trust in the youth of Jammu and Kashmir, urging the Centre and the UT administration to avoid what he termed “unnecessary suspicion” following recent developments in the region.

Sadiq, who represents Zadibal in the J&K Assembly, said building trust with local people was essential to reduce the perceived gap between Kashmir and the Centre.

“If we want to close the distance between the heart and Delhi, and make it closer, then I think we have to trust our people,” he told reporters in Srinagar.

Referring to the recent incident in Anantnag, he said certain elements use such incidents to put young people under suspicion. He endorsed PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti’s remarks on the issue and said the National Conference would raise the matter with the central government.

“The way Mehbooba has spoken… we agree with her. Some elements take advantage of such incidents to put our youth under the scanner. This needs to stop,” Sadiq said.

Sadiq also rejected speculation about a possible tariff hike, describing it as baseless rumours. He clarified that the administration has not issued any order announcing an increase in tariffs.

“There is no order, do not spread rumours, there is no such thing. Last time too, a rumour was spread… there is no increase in any tariff,” he said.

The NC spokesperson said the party would take up both issues with the Centre, including what he described as the targeting of youth and the spread of unfounded tariff-related claims.

He said the party would seek to ensure that those attempting to create confusion or exploit such situations do not succeed in their efforts.
