JAMMU, AUGUST 11: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has upgraded the weather alert for the Jammu region from yellow to orange, warning of increased rainfall activity from August 12 to 16.

The IMD has forecast isolated spells of heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds during this period. Light to moderate rainfall is expected across most parts of the region, with weather activity likely to remain fairly widespread to widespread.

Authorities have also been cautioned about the possibility of landslides, shooting stones and flash floods in vulnerable areas. The department has warned that intense, localised rainfall and isolated cloudburst events could occur, particularly in the higher reaches and vulnerable areas of the Chenab Valley, Jammu, Udhampur, Reasi, Rajouri and Poonch.

Weather conditions are expected to become more active from August 11, with the intensity likely to increase over the following days.

Despite the rainfall, Jammu may continue to experience warm and humid conditions, with maximum temperatures expected to remain between 31 and 35 degrees Celsius.

Divisional and district administrations have urged residents and travellers to remain cautious, especially in vulnerable areas. People have been advised to stay away from rivers, streams and other water bodies and avoid travelling through stretches identified as prone to landslides, flash floods and falling stones.
