Kulgam, August 8: Health Minister Sakina Itoo  said a proposal seeking an increase in the honorarium of National Health Mission (NHM) workers has been sent to the Centre for approval.

Itoo said NHM workers make an important contribution to the healthcare system and their concerns need to be addressed. She added that she had also taken up the matter with the Union Health Minister and was pursuing the issue with the concerned authorities.

Meanwhile, after nearly two decades, the long-pending Sub-District Hospital at Qaimoh in Kulgam was inaugurated by Sakina Itoo. The healthcare facility has been completed at a cost of ₹19.32 crore.

The inauguration marks the completion of a project that had remained unfinished for several years. The hospital is expected to improve access to healthcare services for residents of Qaimoh and adjoining areas.

Speaking at the inauguration, Itoo congratulated the people of the area and appreciated the officers and engineers of the Health Department for completing the project.

She said several meetings were held with the concerned officials to speed up the work, particularly after the formation of the government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

The minister said the government was committed to ensuring that the hospital became fully functional and that patients could receive treatment and necessary facilities closer to home.

The opening of the hospital is expected to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in the area and provide residents with improved access to medical services.
