Anantnag, July 23: Authorities demolished the houses of two alleged active Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, hours after a police head constable was shot dead while on duty.
Officials identified the two as Adil Thokar of Guree, Bijbehara, and Haroon Ganaie of Hassanpora, both of whom are believed by security agencies to be active members of the banned outfit.
According to official sources, the demolition drive was part of an intensified campaign to dismantle militant networks and target the infrastructure allegedly used to support terrorist activities in the Kashmir Valley.
The action followed the killing of Head Constable Aashiq Hussain Qureshi (35), who was attacked by a lone gunman at Lal Chowk in Anantnag on Wednesday afternoon while deployed for Amarnath Yatra security.
Following the attack, security forces sealed off the area and launched a large-scale search operation to trace those involved. Additional personnel were deployed, and security checks were intensified at several locations across the district. Officials said efforts to identify and apprehend the attackers are ongoing.
