New Delhi, July 18: A protest at Jantar Mantar took an unexpected turn on Saturday when a woman allegedly splashed an ink-like substance on Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke while he was speaking to supporters.
The incident unfolded only hours after climate activist Sonam Wangchuk was taken from the protest venue to Safdarjung Hospital by Delhi Police due to concerns over his health during his prolonged hunger strike.
Witnesses said the woman suddenly moved towards the stage and threw the liquid at Dipke, causing panic among those present. Protesters rushed forward as security personnel stepped in to control the situation.
Police later detained the woman for questioning. Officials have not revealed her identity or the motive behind the act, adding that the matter is under investigation.
Earlier in the day, Delhi Police shifted Wangchuk to Safdarjung Hospital after doctors reportedly advised immediate medical attention as his indefinite hunger strike entered its 21st day. The operation led to brief protests from supporters, some of whom attempted to prevent the police from moving him.
Wangchuk has been fasting since June 28 in support of the CJP-led agitation over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination. Medical teams monitoring his condition had reported significant weight loss and were keeping a close watch on his blood pressure and blood sugar levels.
Following the hospitalisation, Dipke claimed on social media that several protesters were detained and alleged that police used force during the operation. Authorities have not officially responded to those allegations.
