Jammu, Jul 18: Six persons, including five pilgrims undertaking the annual Shri Amarnath Yatra, were injured in a road accident after their vehicle rammed into a stationary dumper in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir early Saturday, officials said.
The mishap occurred around 5 a.m. near Jakhani on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, which was travelling as part of a Yatra convoy carrying over 3,600 pilgrims from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu to the holy Amarnath cave shrine in Kashmir.
According to officials, the injured include five pilgrims from Uttar Pradesh and the driver, a resident of Ganderbal district. All of them were immediately shifted to Government Medical College (GMC), Udhampur, where they are receiving treatment.
Following the incident, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha reviewed the situation and directed the district administration and health authorities to ensure prompt medical care for the injured.
The Lieutenant Governor spoke with Udhampur Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa and senior medical officials to assess the condition of those injured and instructed them to provide every possible assistance.
In a post on X, Sinha said he had inquired about the health of the injured pilgrims and directed officials to ensure the best possible treatment for their speedy recovery.
He also prayed for the well-being of all devotees undertaking the annual pilgrimage and wished them a safe and smooth journey.
