New Delhi, May 21: Hamza Burhan, reportedly accused of playing a key role in the 2019 Pulwama terror attack, was allegedly shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir’s Muzaffarabad area, according to media reports.
The circumstances surrounding the killing remain unclear, and no group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
Reports said unidentified assailants opened fire on Hamza Burhan before escaping from the scene. Pakistani authorities have not yet issued a detailed statement regarding the incident.
Hamza Burhan was reportedly linked to the planning and logistical support of the Pulwama attack carried out in February 2019, in which more than 40 CRPF personnel were killed after a suicide bomber targeted a convoy on the Jammu-Srinagar highway.
The attack had been claimed by the Pakistan-based militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
The latest incident comes amid a series of attacks in recent years involving suspected militants and terror-linked figures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. However, officials have not connected the killing to any larger operation or organised campaign.
