New Delhi, April 28: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday granted one week’s interim bail to jailed Baramulla Member of Parliament Engineer Rashid so that he can meet and take care of his ailing father.
A bench led by Justice Vikas Mahajan remarked that Rashid has remained behind bars for over six years. After examining the available records, the court concluded that the matter deserved temporary relief on humanitarian considerations.
The court allowed him to stay either at the hospital or at the residence where his father is receiving medical treatment. However, it directed that he must remain under the constant supervision of at least two police personnel in plain clothes throughout the bail period.
The bench also laid down several stringent conditions. Rashid has been asked to submit a personal bond of ₹1 lakh along with a surety of the same amount. He has been instructed to remain restricted to the declared residence or hospital location shared with the authorities and not to step outside without permission.
Additionally, he has been directed to use only one mobile phone number, keep it operational at all times, and avoid any communication with witnesses or actions that could influence the proceedings. The court further stated that visits should be limited strictly to immediate family members, with no unnecessary visitors allowed.
The judges made it clear that the interim bail has been granted solely to enable him to attend to his unwell father, and all expenses related to security arrangements will be covered by the National Investigation Agency (NIA)
