Srinagar: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has ordered the withholding of salaries of 18 Block Development Officers (BDOs) for their poor performance in completing the e-KYC process of workers under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
Officials said the order, issued by the Secretary to the Government, came after a review meeting held on November 2, 2025, where it was found that several blocks had shown performance well below the Union Territory average of 49.68 percent. The failure to meet targets was termed a serious lapse and dereliction of duty by the concerned officers.
The affected BDOs belong to Kupwara, Trehgam, Rajwara, Herri Qadriabad, Panthal, Kalaroose, Harwan, Sogam, Mawar Qalamabad, Kralpora, Ramhal, Magam, Nadihal, Khonmoh, Reddi Chowkibal, Qaziabad, Srinagar, and Thakrakote. Their October salaries have been withheld, and November salaries will remain on hold until the pending e-KYC work is completed.
The move highlights the Government’s emphasis on accountability and timely digital verification to ensure transparency in the implementation of MGNREGA across Jammu and Kashmir.
