MLAs downgrade their protocol, seen running after Tehsildar, police officials: Former JMC Mayor

Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Police today booked a man for allegedly posting obscene comments and using derogatory language against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Jammu South Dr Narinder Singh Raina on social media, police said on Sunday . “Based on a complaint filed by Naveen Bharti, Mandal President, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), R.S. Pura, one Karan Bhagat son of Ramesh Chander Bhagat of Chohalla Morh has been booked in a case FIR No. 178/2025 U/S 294/356 BNS on Sunday”, a police official told The News Now.
Reports reaching here said that Naveen Bharti, Mandal President, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), R.S. Pura, appeared in Police Station R.S. Pura and produced a written application stating that one Karan Bhagat has posted obscene and abusive remarks against the MLA, Bharatiya Janata Party, on Facebook.
He said that the remarks were objectionable, defamatory, and have allegedly caused serious damage to the public image and reputation of the elected representative as well as the Bharatiya Janata Party. He said that the character assassinated post attracts legal action against the accused.
Along with the complaint, he submitted evidence in the form of screenshots and links of the Facebook content.
Meanwhile, Rajinder Sharma, former JMC Mayor from BJP, cracked heavily on MLAs for their docility. While interacting with the media, Rajinder Sharma said that the administration has made the entire political system docile and non-assertive.
“MLA’s protocol is equal to that of the Chief Secretary and have you ever seen the Chief Secretary running after a Tehsildar or a police official to get work done. Here, what is happening is that the Commissioner is holding meetings with MLAs and addressing the media on the ground and MLAs are standing with him, this has become a mockery of democracy. Those who are supposed to give directions have been rendered docile, and bureaucrats who are implementing agencies have taken over”, former Mayor said.
He further said that it has been observed that due to administrative non-seriousness and political non-assertiveness, people in Jammu are suffering losses in terms of property and life. He said that It’s been five days since flash floods and landslides occurred, around 164 people lost their lives, and many houses were destroyed. However, the National Disaster Management Authority, headed by the Prime Minister, and the State Disaster Management Authority, headed by the Chief Minister, have not declared it a disaster yet. As a result, we cannot relax the General Financial Rules (GFR). “If we cannot relax the GFR, how will we procure the necessary materials to compensate for the damage? If we wait for the tender process, it takes three months. When there is a relaxation in the GFR, officials can purchase materials without any tendering process. But this provision has not been made yet”, he said.
