White Knight Corps GoC reviews security situation along LoC in Poonch

SRINAGAR: Two militants were killed as the army foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) near Naushehra Nard area of Gurez in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said on X, “Based on intelligence provided by JKP regarding a likely infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched by Indian Army and police in the Gurez sector,” adding that alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged intruders, which resulted in terrorists opening indiscriminate fire.

The search operation in the area is going on.

Additional troops have been rushed to the area to assist the troops in the search operation.

Earlier, on August 25, army foiled a infiltration bid of militants along the LoC in Torna area of Uri sector in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Today’s infiltration bid was the third infiltration attempt foiled by the army along the LoC in north Kashmir in the last 12 days.

Earlier, on August 13, an army jawan identified as Havaldar Ankit was killed in an encounter with militants while foiling an infiltration bid of heavily armed militants at LoC in Churanda area of Uri .

A day before, the army said sepoy Banoth Anil Kumar was killed while performing operational duty along the LoC in Baramulla district on Tuesday.

Army jawan killed on August 13 was the first death of a soldier along the LoC in firefight with militants after May 7 “Operation Sindoor” launched by Indian military to attack and destroy nine militant infrastructure within Pakistan and PoK to avenge the April 22 Pahalgam attack in which 25 tourists and a local ponywala were killed.

Meanwhile, White Knight Corps General Officer Commanding (GoC) Lieutenant General P K Mishra on Thursday visited forward areas along LoC in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district to assess the operational preparedness and prevailing security situation in the sector.

He impressed upon the troops to maintain a robust defensive posture and enhanced surveillance measures along the border.

“GOC White knight corps along with GOC Ace of Spades Division visited forward areas of Krishna Ghati Sector to assess the prevailing security situation and review the operational readiness of troops deployed along the Line of Control,” the Defense PRO said in a post on X.
