Srinagar: Security and administrative vigilance around the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra was further intensified on Wednesday, with three over-ground workers (OGWs) apprehended using advanced surveillance technology and four government teachers suspended over alleged irregularities in the registration process.
In Anantnag, police arrested three suspected OGWs after the Facial Recognition System (FRS) deployed for the Yatra generated alerts when they passed through the Sarbal area.
Security personnel intercepted and verified their identities before taking them into custody for further legal proceedings. Police said the operation demonstrated the effectiveness of technology-driven policing in strengthening the Yatra’s security grid.
Meanwhile, the Ganderbal district administration suspended four teachers—Bilal Ahmad Sheikh, Aabid Mohi-ud-Din Bhat, Peer Mudasir and Gowhar Rashid Kullu—over alleged irregularities in the on-the-spot registration process at the Manigam Transit Camp.
Officials said the matter is under investigation and warned that strict action would be taken against anyone found involved. The administration also advised pilgrims to obtain registration only through authorised centres and avoid touts or unauthorised persons offering registration in exchange for money.
