Jammu: The annual Amarnath Yatra continues smoothly with over 8,400 pilgrims offering prayers at the holy cave shrine on Sunday, taking the total number of yatris to 3.77 lakh since the pilgrimage began on July 3, officials said.
According to officials, 8,405 devotees, including 6,198 men, 1,483 women, 90 children, 66 sadhus, three sadhvis, and 565 security personnel, paid obeisance at the 3,800-metre-high cave in south Kashmir’s Himalayas on Sunday.
Earlier in the day, a fresh batch of 2,197 pilgrims left from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu for the shrine. The group included 365 women, 49 sadhus, and 10 sadhvis, traveling in two separate convoys headed to the twin base camps—Nunwan-Pahalgam in Anantnag and Baltal in Ganderbal.
Of the total, 1,624 pilgrims took the Pahalgam route in 62 vehicles, while 573 pilgrims opted for the Baltal route in 38 vehicles. The entire movement was conducted under tight security arrangements.
The 38-day-long Amarnath Yatra will conclude on August 9, coinciding with Raksha Bandhan.
So far, 3,77,080 pilgrims have undertaken the sacred journey, reflecting the continued devotion and smooth management of the annual pilgrimage.
