Srinagar: Two persons died, while 11, including four tourists, were injured in twin road accidents in Kashmir on Wednesday, officials said.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed grief over the loss of lives.
A vehicle skidded off the Aru-Pahalgam road and fell into a deep gorge in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, resulting in the on-the-spot death of two persons and injuries to six, the officials said.
They said the injured were shifted to a nearby hospital.
Police took cognisance of the incident, they said.
Sinha expressed condolences over the loss of lives.
“Pained by the loss of precious lives in the tragic road accident in Pahalgam. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members in this hour of grief,” he said in a statement.
The LG directed the district administration to provide all necessary assistance to those affected.
Abdullah also expressed grief over the accident.
The chief minister conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for peace to the departed souls.
An official spokesperson said Abdullah prayed for strength and courage to the families to bear the irreparable loss.
Expressing concern over the injured, the chief minister directed the authorities concerned to ensure that they receive the best possible medical treatment without any delay, the spokesperson said.
Abdullah also instructed the administration to extend all necessary assistance and support to the affected families.
Earlier, four tourists and a local driver were injured when their vehicle overturned in Tangmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
The incident took place in the main market area of Tangmarg — the gateway to the famous ski resort of Gulmarg.
The officials said the injured were treated for minor injuries.
