Jammu: Jammu & Kashmir is set to witness two significant high-profile visits in April.
As per reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the Vande Bharat Express from Katra to Baramulla on April 19.
Additionally, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be visiting Jammu & Kashmir on April 7-8 for a security review meeting.
The Prime Minister is expected to inaugurate the much-awaited Vande Bharat Express, which will connect Katra to Baramulla. This train service is expected to enhance rail connectivity between Jammu and Kashmir. Currently, the train will operate from Katra, and after the completion of expansion work at Jammu Railway Station, it is likely to commence operations from Jammu by August.
PM Modi is also expected to visit the iconic Chenab Rail Bridge in Reasi, one of the highest railway bridges in the world. This visit underscores the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure in the region.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit will primarily focus on security concerns. He is set to chair a high-level security review meeting in Srinagar.
Sources indicate that top officials, including Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, BSF, Army, and paramilitary forces’ senior officers, will accompany him.
This will be the first on-ground security review meeting in Jammu & Kashmir after the formation of the government. Previously, five such meetings were held in Delhi since December 2024.
The discussion will likely focus on recent anti-militancy operations, infiltration attempts, ceasefire violations, and counter-terrorism strategies.
There are speculations that Amit Shah may also visit the border areas and meet families of security personnel who lost their lives in recent encounters, including the Kathua encounter where four J&K police personnel were martyred.
Coinciding with Amit Shah’s visit, the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly will resume its session on April 7-9. Three private member resolutions regarding the restoration of Jammu & Kashmir’s statehood will be presented. This is expected to spark intense debates and discussions in the Assembly.

With his upcoming visit and the ongoing Assembly session, there is growing anticipation that significant developments regarding statehood might take place.
April is set to be a crucial month for Jammu & Kashmir, with key political and infrastructural developments expected.
