JAMMU: Based on the photographic evidence, the traffic police have started issuing notices to vehicle owners guilty of wrong parking at their residences, even as the same practice is set to be extended to other traffic offences soon.
The step on the part of traffic police has been taken to ensure effective traffic management on the roads of Jammu City.
Traffic Police put all possible efforts to take action against visible traffic violations especially against the wrongly parked vehicles by way of towing, use of wheel clumps, issuance of Court Compound Challan as well as pasting of wrong parking sticker challan on the screen of the Vehicle, said an official spokesman on Thursday.
The sticker notice is served to the violator on windscreen of his/her vehicle under section 133 MV Act 1988 for obstructive/wrong parking with addition of section 187 MV Act 1988 which carries punishment of imprisonment for a term which may not exceed 03 months or with a fine which may extent to Rs 500 or with both.
The traffic police goes tough after it was observed that most of the violators became defaulters.
“It was observed that most of the violators became defaulters so traffic police initiated the process to serve notice at the residential address of the violator before submitting the challan into the Court,” an official said.
He said that if the violator will not get the sticker disposed- off within the stipulated time, such vehicle will be towed/seized from the respective residences with the help of SHO’s of concerned Police Stations.
“The department will approach to RTO concerned for cancellation of the Registration Certificate or Driving Licenses of the concerned violator,” the official said.
“So far we have served fifty notices to the addresses of the owners of the wrongly parked vehicles”, said SSP Traffic Jammu Joginder Singh when contacted by The News Now.
He further said that in near future, the process would be extended to other traffic violations as well.
