Heritage Walk to Babore Temples organised

SAMBA, NOVEMBER 05: A heritage walk to Babore Temples at Manwal was organised on the concluding day of the two-day adventure cum heritage camp organised by Directorate of Tourism Jammu for JKAS probationers. It was flagged off by Chetan Taneja, Divisional Traffic Manager, Northern Railways.

The heritage walk was flagged off from Devi Bhagwati temple, and covered Dera temple, Kala Dera and Nand Babore temples. This tenth century temple complex at Manwal exhibits ornate stone carvings and temple building architecture.

On the occasion, Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) especially opened the Sculpture shed containing the priceless antiquities.

Director Tourism, Jammu Deepika Kumari Sharma asked the batch of 137 JKAS probationers to appreciate the rich heritage of the Jammu region and work as brand ambassadors for tourism.

On the first day of the camp, participants were engaged in trekking, camping and team building exercises. Senior Superintendent of Police, Shakti Pathak had flagged off the trekking expedition on Monday to the medieval forts of Samba including, Dhergarh, Mahoregarh and Bhupnergarh situated atop Shiwalik hills, finally culminating at Mansar Lake.

Later, on day one, Kamal Singh Oberh, Group Captain retd. credited with over 1300 jumps in Aero sports and a recipient of Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award, gave a motivational presentation to the participants.


The 2-day adventure camp has been sponsored by J&K Institute of Management, Public Administration and Rural Development JKIMPARD, which involved the use of only environment friendly leaf plates and cups for serving food.

Nagendra Singh Jamwal, CEO, SMDA, Amarpal Singh and Rakesh Koul, Senior Instructors of Adventure Wing were also present on the occasion.
