New Delhi: Muslim side contended before a five-judge Constitution bench of the Supreme Court that the Hindus were not able to establish that the central dome was the birth place of Lord Ram.

The assertion was made by Muslim side counsel, Dr Rajeev Dhavan, in the apex court which resumed hearing after the Dussehra vacations on a batch of petitions challenging the 2010 Allahabad High Court judgement trifurcating the disputed site at Ayodhya into three parts.

Since August 6, the Supreme Court is hearing the case on a day-to-day basis, after the failure of the mediation process, in the Ramjanmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute.

'Their campaign was based on it. Hindus also accepted that till 1989 they only had prescriptive right to worship. Nyas was an invention and it was a socio-political group created to claim title, Dr Dhavan averred.
