JAMMU: Alert troops of Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday shot dead a Pakistani intruder while he was trying to cross the International Border in Ramgarh sector of Samba district.

The incident took place around 3 am when a man in his 60's was trying to sneak into the Indian territory near the S M Pura border post in Ramgarh sector.

A Defence spokesman here said that in the intervening night of July 14-15, BSF troops of 62 battalion deployed at forward post in Ramgarh area noticed a suspicious movement between border security fence and International Border.

"BSF troops challenged him to stop, but he continued moving stealthily towards Border Fencing," spokesman said adding that sensing his ill-intentions of crossing the fence, BSF jawans first fired a warning shot which did not deter the intruder.

"Finally, when intruder tried to enter through the fence, BSF jawans shot at him," he said and added that later on the dead body was recovered when day light broke out.

"The body of the Pakistani intruder after retrieval from the place of incident was handed over to the Police Station, Ramgarh for further disposal," he said, adding that a probe into the matter was underway.

Defence sources informed that from the dead body, two notes of Pak currency of the denomination of PKR 10 and a candy has been found.
