Polling starts picking up, 4.79 pc voting recorded in Anantnag PC till 1100 hrs

Anantnag, Apr 23 : Polling has finally started picking up though 4.79 per cent turnout was recorded during the first four hours in the first of three-phase polling in six of the 16 Assembly segments of Anantnag Parliamentary Constituency (PC) in south Kashmir amidst unprecedented security arrangements following boycott and strike called by Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) on Tuesday.
In the main town Bijbehara, hometown of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti, seeking mandate from the constituency and Anantnag town witnessed very less people exercising their democratic right.
An official spokesman said that during the first four hours of polling, 4.79 per cent voting was recorded in the constituency.
However, the authorities express hope that polling will pick up as the day progresses since it is cold outside.
