JKCA to host 1300 teams for district cricket tourneys

Srinagar, Apr 21: J&K Cricket Association is all set to launch this seasons’ district level tournaments across Kashmir.
According to a statement, the registration process has been completed with around 1300 teams registering in Kashmir province. The district Baramulla leg of the tournament started at Pattan on Saturday.
The tournament is the initiative of JKCA to provide a platform for the district level players. The new cricket sensation of J&K and current Mumbai Indian’s pacer in Indian Premier League Rasikh Salam’s talent got nurtured during last year’s district-level events.
Rasikh was called for talent hunt where he was observed by Irfan Pathan. “For the first time in the history of JKCA an open district level tournament was conducted in which players from all districts, clubs of State were given chance to show their talent. It worked as a number of unknown players performed well who then were called for the talent hunt and other coaching camps,” said JKCA official.
“Players like Rasikh Salam from Kulgam who made it to IPL and Zahid from Tral and Basit from Kupwara are all product of this event. They did well in this event last year and then came into the eyes of selectors,” he added.
The official said that for the first time in cricket history of J&K district level events would also be held in Kargil and Leh.
“The district-level tournament of this event will also be held in Leh and Kargil. The teams in both districts have already registered and matches will start soon. The format of the event is 40- overs and it is a great platform for the cricketers,” he added.
