Jammu, Feb 21: Pointing towards the reports that MHA and J&K Administration are opposed to holding of simultaneous LS and Assembly Polls in J&K citing security reasons, Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party on Thursday alleged that it was yet another frivolous excuse to avoid the state elections for vested political reasons.

“Having failed to deliver during its 3.5 years rule in the state, and antagonized its own electorates as well, the BJP was trying hard to buy time and thereby seeking postponement of Assembly elections,” party chairman and former minister Harsh Dev Singh here told reporters.

He said that scared to face the people in the wake of its multiple betrayals with Jammu cause, it preferred extension of Presidents rule and continuation of its proxy rule in the state.

Reiterating the need for the early elections to J&K legislative Assembly in the state, Mr Singh said that any delay in this regard would not only amount to subversion of democracy but also violate the orders of the Supreme Court.

“The people could not be deprived of their democratic rights in the state only for the political inexpediencies of the ruling party at the centre by taking the plea of security related issues,” he said and added that and that too in a situation wherein the Union Home Minister had made statements in the just concluded session of Parliament of full preparations having been made for the said Elections including arrangements of security personnel.

“Not only that the PM Modi had been making loud pronouncements of holding simultaneous polls for LS and Assemblies of all states," he said adding that if the Modi govt was in as position to provide security for simultaneous polls all across the nation, why was it hesitant for Assembly polls in the J&K State alongwith Lok Sabha elections”.

With the State earlier remaining under Governor Rule for six months followed by President’s Rule, it would be wholly unjustified and unconstitutional to plan further extension of central Rule after May 21, said Mr Singh.

Flaying the BJP led NDA for denying the people of J&K their democratic rights, Mr. Singh said that people could not be further deprived of their right to choose their own representatives and to have an elected govt in the state.

“If the Municipal and the Panchayat elections could be held in the state, the postponement of Assembly elections on frivolous grounds defied all logic and rationale,” he added.
