Varanasi, Feb 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the first-ever diesel-to-electric converted locomotive at the Diesel Locomotive Works here on Tuesday.

After reaching Varanasi in the morning, the Prime Minister moved to the DLW to flag off the locomotive.

DLW, Varanasi, has converted a diesel locomotive to run on electric traction at almost twice the power.

Later, Mr Modi visited temple of Sant Ravidas, the mystic-poet saint of the Bhakti movement during the 15th century, and paid tributes to him on the occasion of his birth anniversary.

The Prime Minister also laid foundation stone for Ravidas Janmasthali (birthplace) area development project. As part of the project, a grand park will be constructed with a statue of the seer along with a light and sound programme.

During his arrival at the DLW, Mr Modi also met some 'divyangs' and interacted with them.

One of the Divyangs, a mimicry artist, imitated the Prime Minister, making him (Mr Modi) smile.

The Prime Minister is also slated to gift several development projects worth over Rs 3,382 crores to his parliamentary constituency.

He is also scheduled to address a public meeting before flying back to Delhi late in the afternoon.
