Road to Gurez, other villages near LoC closed, stranded vehicles cleared

Bandipora, Jan 19: The border town of Gurez and dozens of other villages, including those near the Line of Control (LoC) remained closed due to accumulation of several feet of snow in this north Kashmir district of Bandipora, where moderate to heavy snowfall was experienced since Friday night.

Meanwhile, major snow clearance operation has been started from 0330 hrs in main town and other routes in Bandipora, where authorities cleared vehicles which had got stranded at Barnai in Gurez due to accumulation of huge snow, Deputy Development Commissioneer (DDC) Dr Shahid Choudhary said on Saturday.

Snow clearance will be a continuous process, people are advised to use anti skid chain before driving vehicles since the road is slippery, he said, adding all eleven 33 KV transmission lines are working alright though out of 20 local lines, five are off at present and efforts are going on to restore them.
