Life returns to normal in Shopian after 3 days of strike

Srinagar, Jan 16: Life returned to normal on Wednesday after remaining crippled for the past three days in Shopian in south Kashmir, where two militants, including a top Al-Badr commander, were killed in an encounter with security forces on Saturday evening in Kulgam.

Tuition and coaching centres at K P Road in Anantnag were closed today following directions by police.

However, life was normal in Kulgam district on Tuesday after remaining partially affected for two days.

Shops and business establishments reopened in Shopian today after remaining closed for three days due to spontaneous strike. Traffic was also plying on all routes normally. Work in government offices and banks was also normal. Educational institutions are closed on account of winter vacation. However, tuition and coaching centres were functioning normally.

All tuition and coaching centres at K P Road, Anantnag are closed today following direction from police.

'We were informed by management that tuition centres will remain closed today,' students said. Police has advised the management of these centres to shift them to any other place to avoid any law and order problem at busy K P Road. However, Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag, has informed the management of these centres to function at K P Road, they said.

Elsewhere in the district, tuition and coaching centres are functioning normally.
