Rajouri Police releases 2018 achievements, says 4 terrorists killed,two others arrested with 4 OGWs

Jammu, Jan 14: Jammu and Kashmir Police foiled number of militancy related incidents in close coordination with army and other sister agencies while stern action was taken against people involved in unlawful activities including drugs peddling and bovine smuggling in the year 2018.

Senior Superintendent of Police Rajouri , Yougal Manhas while sharing the details on Sunday said on counter insurgency front, security forces killed four militants during an encounter in Sunderbani area on March 27/28 after they had freshly infiltrated from LoC but were tracked after three days long operation and finally neutralized about a kilometre near Sunderbani town.

Operation was jointly carried out by Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army and BSF in close coordination with other sister intelligence agencies.

Along with this, Jammu and Kashmir police along with 38 RR of army also foiled a militant attack in Thanamandi area of the district after two militants from valley snatched a weapon from a cop and tried to fire on a police and army Naka at main chowk Thanamandi but alert jawans managed to repulse the attack and overpowered the duo, said the SSP.


He also said four Over Ground Workers (OGWs) running a hawala money racket in Rajouri were also arrested during an operation carried out by police along with 48 RR and hawala money was recovered from them.

“These OGWs were in close contact with Al-Badr commander Zeenat Ul Islam and were trying to garner financial support for the militant outfit in Rajouri but were arrested by forces before they could manage to succeed in their nefarious design,” SSP added.

Besides, taking stern action against the people found involved in unlawful activities time and again, 11 such criminals were detained under Public Safety Act. These criminals were involved in OGW network, bovine smuggling and drugs peddling, he further said.

Mr Manhas said similarly, in drive against the menace of drugs / narcotics peddling, 32 FIRs were registered across the district and 52 people were arrested with recovery of narcotic substances from them. 109 people were also taken into preventive custody on the orders of executive magistrate after they were found involved in different kinds of unlawful activities including drugs peddling, trouble creating and thefts.

“History sheets of 46 criminals particularly involved in drugs peddling were opened in police stations across the district with an aim to keep close watch on their activities,” he added.

He also said in check against the bovine smuggling, 198 FIRs were registered across the district in the previous year with 237 bovine smugglers and drivers of vehicles arrested.

With an aim to keep a check on the rising violation of motor vehicles act, especially overloading of passengers, which becomes a major reason for road accidents, 12329 vehicles were challaned with recovery of fine to the tune of Rs 16,45,415 while 116 FIRs were registered against the drivers of vehicles for overloading of passengers which has been seen as a main reason of fatal road accidents, he added.

The SSP added that in delivery of public services, 7648 passport verifications were received and all were disposed within stipulated time period whereas 2454 service verifications were completed in the time bound manner in the previous year.

“About 811 LoC permits were also verified and issued during the year while 1507 character certificates were issued in the year which are mostly required while applying for any job or other government services,” he added and said that 33 absconders were put behind the bars during the previous year and all these absconders were evading arrests since past years in various cases.

District Police Office also received 276 complaints from various institutions of state and country which were lodged before these institutions by citizens and out of these 276 complaints, 16 were converted into FIRs in different police stations of the district as the same were found worth taking cognizance during the course of inquiry , said SSP.

Meanwhile, with an aim to strengthen the relation with masses and to take a step forward on public friendly policing, 178 police public interaction meetings (PCPGs) were conducted across the district in the year 2018 with most of these meetings were chaired by deputy superintendents of police of various police subdivisions, Addl superintendents of police of Rajouri and Nowshera, and senior superintendent of police Rajouri, he further said.

Mr Manhas, said under the supervision of police headquarters Jammu and Kashmir and zonal police office Jammu, efforts are on to further tighten the noose against people involved in unlawful activities and delivery of public services in a time bound manner besides effective check over crime and criminals.
