Three arrested with fake currency

JAMMU: Security personnel Friday arrested three persons and recovered fake currency with a face value of more than Rs 15,000 in Rajouri, busting a narco- terrorism racket in the district.

A Special Operation Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police under the supervision of DySP PC, Pranav Mahajan along with a team of 38 Rashtriya Rifles unit set up a checkpoint at Manyal Gali area in Thanamandi on the Thanamandi- Dera Ki Gali road road, SSP Rajouri, Yougal Manhas said.

“A car bearing registration number PB02AK- 7288 which was on its way towards Rajouri was signalled to stop. Although, the driver attempted to break the checkpoint but personals of army and police managed to foil the attempt and overpowered the driver,” said Manhas.

“The car was put to thorough frisking during which fake currency notes worth 15,100 rupees with 43 notes of 200 and 13 notes of 500 denomination were recovered from the possession of one Javaid Ahmed son of Ghulam Mohammad resident of Kulgam.

“Soon after the recovery, he was taken into arrest while two other persons travelling in the car identified as Abdul Rashied son of Sana Ullah and Bilal Ahmed Dar son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar, both residents of Kulgam were also arrested,” said the SSP, adding the trio was lodged in Police Station Thanamandi even as investigation was commenced in the case.

In the preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the accused have links with some drug peddlers in Rajouri and Poonch and used the fake currency to supply narcotics, the SSP said, adding that the trio is also part of a narco-terrorism racket here.

The trio were in link with some drugs peddlers of Rajouri and Poonch and were supplying drugs and narcotics substances with the use of fake currency, he said, adding, “the vehicle has also been seized.”

A case vide FIR No 02/2019 under sections 489-B, 489-C RPC, 11/13/17/21/40 ULA has been registered in Thanamandi police station, he said, adding that more details will emerge as the probe proceeds.
