SRINAGAR: JeM militants on Friday evening attacked a CRPF bunker in the summer capital by hurling a grenade, even as police arrested two Over-Ground Workers (OGWs) of militants and recovered arms and ammunition including an AK-47 and an INSAS rifle from their possession.
Militants hurled a UBGL grenade towards a CRPF bunker near Palladium Cinema in city centre Lal Chowk this evening, a police official said.
He said there were no reports of any loss of life so far in the explosion.
Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant outfit has claimed the responsibility of the grenade attack. A JeM spokesperson Mohammad Hassan said the attack was in revenge for its slain commander Nasir Khan alias Abdul Rehman, a Valley news agency quoted a Jaish statement.
Meanwhile, police on Friday arrested two OGWs and recovered arms and ammunition from their possession.
An official said that a naka was held near Dilshan Hotel Shalteng Srinagar by Cargo Srinagar and, during the checking, two people were held with arms and ammunition in a vehicle under registration number JK13-C-2094.
The arms include one AK-47, one INSAS, and a hand grenade. Besides arms, five lakh rupees in cash were also recovered from them.
In this regard, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation was taken up, the official added.
