Cyclone 'Gaja' to cross TN coast between Pamban, Cuddalore on Nov 15

Chennai, Nov 13: The Cyclonic storm ‘Gaja’ over the West-central and adjoining East-central and South Bay of Bengal moved west-north westwards, would intensify as a severe cyclonic storm and would cross the Tamil Nadu coast between Pamban and Cuddalore on the afternoon of November 15.

A bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday said the cyclonic storm lay centred over Westcentral and adjoining Eastcentral and South Bay of Bengal about 740 km east-northeast of Chennai and 830 km east-northeast of Nagappattinam.

It was likely to move west-southwestwards and intensify further into a severe Cyclonic Storm during the next 24 hours.

While moving west-southwestwards further, it was likely to weaken gradually on November 15 and cross the Tamil Nadu coast between Pamban and Cuddalore as a Cyclonic Storm on Thursday afternoon.

The bulletin said under its influence rainfall would occur at many places with heavy falls at isolated places over north coastal Tamil Nadu and adjoining districts of south coastal Tamil Nadu from tomorrow evening.

On November 15, rainfall would occur at most places, with heavy to very heavy at a few places over Tamilnadu. Extremely heavy falls (in excess of 20 cm) would also occur at isolated places over Cuddalore, Nagappattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Tuticorin and Ramanathapuram districts.

The IMD also issued a Red colour warning and said it means take action. 'It does not mean red alert', it said.
