Pak snipers kill porter, injure jawan along LoC

JAMMU: An Army porter attained martyrdom while a BSF jawan was injured in two separate incidents of Pakistani sniper fire along the Line of Control in last 24 hours in Akhnoor and Bhimber Gali Sector of Jammu.

Official sources informed that Pakistan violated ceasefire at LoC in Akhnoor sector this evening and targeted a porter in its sniping fire.

“The porter died in sniper fire from across the LoC in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu district around 1800 hours Friday,” officials informed.

“One army Porter martyred in sniping incident at LoC in Akhnoor sector and Indian troops retaliated strongly,” sources said and added the martyred have been identified as Deepak Kumar son of Jeeta Ram of Bhalwal Bharth, Tehsil Pargwal in Jammu.

Normally army engaged locals as porters for them to work.

Meanwhile, in a similar incident at a forward post in Bhimber Gali (BG) sector in Rajouri district, a BSF soldier suffered bullet injury in a sniper fire.

He was immediately evacuated and shifted to hospital, where his condition was stated to be normal.
“In the Manajakote sector, Pakistani personnel targeted forward posts along the LoC around 0930 hours. A jawan of the Border Security Force (BSF) was injured in the firing,” officials said.

The number of ceasefire violations this year by Pakistan has been the highest in the past eight years.

The first seven months of this year saw 52 deaths and 232 people getting injured in 1,435 ceasefire violations in Jammu and Kashmir, according to an RTI reply by the Home ministry.
