JeM militant killed, jawan wounded in Tral encounter

SRINAGAR: A fierce gun-battle in militancy infested Tral area of South Kashmir ended on Friday with the killing of a Jaish-e-Mohammad militant. One security man was also wounded during the encounter.

Jammu and Kashmir Police in a statement said “a militant was on Friday killed after a cordon and search operation was launched in the wee hours by a joint team of army’s 42 RR, SOG and CRPF following specific information about the presence of militants in Dar-Ganiegund area of Tral in Awantipora.”

According to the police spokesman, as the search operation was going on, hiding rebels fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter. In the ensuing encounter, one militant was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter.

Police have also claimed that incriminating materials including arms and ammunition from the site of encounter were recovered.

It added that the slain militant is a Pakistani code named as Anwar and affiliated with the militants outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).

Police also claimed that the slain militant was involved in attacks on security establishments in the area.
“Moreover one policeman also sustained minor injuries and was evacuated to hospital for medical attention. He is stated to be stable. Police has registered a case and initiated investigation in the instant matter,” the police statement reads.

Police in its statement appealed people not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. "People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosives materials if any,” police said.
