JAMMU: The State government on Thursday issued guidelines to be adhered by the Police Head Quarters while making recruitments to over 2000 posts of Constables for two special Border Battalions for Border Districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

The guidelines issued today incorporate the amendments made by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India last month.

As per the fresh guidelines, the recruitment for 2014 posts would be strictly from the youth living in the areas of 0-10 km from IB/LOC/AGPL/LAC and should also be equally divided amongst the 10 Border Districts of J&K.

“As far as recruitment for the posts from Leh and Kargil is concerned this criteria may be suitably relaxed if sufficient number of youths are not available from 0-10 km of AGPL/LAC/LOC,” the guidelines state.

These two Border Battalion of J&K Police would be treated on the strength of J&K Police and not on the cadre strength of IRP.

The other guidelines include, recruitment as per the existing recruitment criteria with regard to Height, Chest, PET, Written Test etc, with special concession to candidates belonging to Leh and Kargil Districts as per past practice; selection to be made through TRP Mode after following the due codal procedure; and Allocation of vacancies to be made amongst various categories as per the extant Reservation Policy of the State Government.

One Battalion each shall be located at a suitable place in Jammu and Kashmir Divisions respectively, the order said,

It may be mentioned that State Home Department in consultation with PHQ had formulated a proposal for raising of two Border Battalions of Jammu and Kashmir Police, comprising 2014 posts of various categories in January 2018, the sanction to which was accorded by MHA in March this year.

The Home Department, in consultation with PHQ had formulated the draft guidelines in October and forwarded the same to MHA for approval of the same.
