Amritsar train tragedy: Amarinder meets victims

Amritsar, Oct 20 : Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Saturday met victims of Amritsar train crash which claimed over 60 lives and injured 57.

The Chief Minister said, 'We have ordered a magisterial probe into the incident.'

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Mr Singh said he has asked the Divisional Commissioner to probe the matter from all aspects and submit report in four weeks.

'Have asked Divisional Commissioner Jalandhar to probe #AmritsarTrainAccident from all aspects & submit report in 4 weeks. Will take action against anyone found responsible for the terrible tragedy, which the nation is mourning,' the CM tweeted.

He visited injured in hospitals and assured all possible help to the affected families.

Mr Singh said that he had already announced Rs five lakh compensation to next of the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.

The Chief Minister said a three-member panel of state Cabinet ministers, comprising Health Minister Brham Mohindra, Revenue Minister Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria and Technical Education Minister Charanjeet Singh Channi, has also been formed to probe the incident.

The Central government and Railways were also investigating the incident, he added.

A disaster management group was formed for monitoring relief and rehabilitation efforts.
