Road accident claimed 3 Eid hoppers, left 19 others injured

Agartala, June 17: Eid celebrations in Tripura was marred following a road accident that killed three Muslim boys and left 19 others injured in Sonamura in West Tripura yesterday.

The vehicle was carrying a team of Eid hoppers to Trishna wildlife sanctuary in South Tripura from Nidaya village of Sepahijala district.

According to police, the mishap took place on Nidaya-Kathalia road under Jatrapur police station. A speeding Bolero was carrying at least 22 persons dashed a 55-year-old man in the village and then it overturned on the road after the driver lost his balance.

Three passengers - Iqbal Hossain (20) of Mogbari died on the spot while Achan Ullah (11) of Mainama and Nayeb Hossain (15) of Mogbari succumbed to injuries in the hospital later on. Police said six injured persons were referred to GBP hospital and three others were shifted to Agartala for better treatment.

A pall of gloom descended among Muslims across the state after spread of the news of accident. The celebration of Eid is disrupted this year due to flood and most of Muslims in North Tripura could not celebrate Eid, as they have been shifted to relief camps.
