DGP Prisons Concludes Security Assessment of Chenab Valley Jails

Jammu: After inspecting progress of ongoing works at new Jail at Bhaderwah, DGP Prisons Dilbag Singh, IPS today visited District Jail Kishtwar to have the familiarization and security review of the institution. He was accompanied by Shri Abrar Choudhary, SP Kishtwar, Shri Perbeet Singh ASP, Shri P.K. Choudary CO 82bn CRPF, Shri Nissar Ahmed DySP Ops, Insp Sameer Jeelani SHO Kishtwar, besides technical team from Headquarter and his staff officer.

During the visit whole of the Jail premises was inspected to assess the security requirements and note down the deficiencies in the infrastructure. The Superintendent Jail Mohd Ibrahim raised certain issues /immediate needs which were noted down and disposed off favourably. On-spot instructions were given to the accompanying technical staff and the District Police Head to coordinate the security and infrastructure requirements, involving all the stake holders in view of the overall security scenario. The District Jail Kishtwar is new with less space but with the experiment of double storeyed barracks for prisoners, capacity has been raised upto 100. Maintenance work wherever was ordered to be done immediately alongwith the additional construction needed found required. The DGP also had a visit of old structure where earlier Sub Jail was functioning and issued instructions to the Technical team to come up with proper utilization plan of the site which presently used for residential purpose.

The two district Jails Bhaderwah and Kishtwar are located in the hilly terrain of Chenab Valley and have their own importance. District Jail Kishtwar is catering to the need of District Kishtwar including far flung areas of Marwah and Dachan and new District Jail coming up at Bhaderwah will go a long way in catering the need of the twin districts of Ramban and infrastructure of District Jail Bhaderwah has been planned with same perspective.

In view of the prevailing situation, a meeting was held at the Police Headquarter Kishtwar to discuss various security related issues viz-z-viz other issues having bearing on the prison administration where in all the officers express their views.
