Srinagar, Feb 21 : Despite rain on early Wednesday morning on this side of the Jawhar tunnel, the national highway, connecting the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, was through for one-way traffic.

There was fresh snowfall at several places on the national highway, linking the Ladakh region with Kashmir and historic Mughal road, which remained closed since December last year due to accumulation of snow and slippery road conditions.

Today, vehicles will ply from Srinagar to Jammu only and no vehicle, including security force convoy, would be allowed from opposite direction on the highway, a traffic police official here said.

Traffic was plying normally on the Kashmir highway as rain at Jawahar tunnel and Zig-mode has not affected movement of vehicles, an official of Traffic Control Unit (TCU) at Ramban told TNN over phone. He said hundreds of vehicles left different parts of the valley for Jammu this morning.

The authorities have issued a fresh low danger warning on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway for 24 hrs since Tuesday evening.

However, he said the commuters are requested to undertake journey on the National Highway only after confirming status of the road from TCU Srinagar.

He said commuters are also advised not to park their vehicles in any landslide, vulnerable and avalanche prone zones of the highway, especially from Jawahar Tunnel - Ramban and Jawahar Tunnel-Lower Munda under any circumstance.
