Cauvery verdict : TN on alert

Chennai, Feb 16 : A general alert has been sounded across Tamil Nadu to maintain law and order in view of the Supreme Court verdict on the vexatious Cauvery issue involving Karnataka.

Tamil Nadu DGP K Rajendran has issued advisory to all districts to deploy adequate police personnel to maintain law and order. The State government has taken all precautionary measures to ensure that no law and order problem arises over the verdict.

Security arrangements have been tightened in all Karantaka-run institutions and to Karnataka bank branches in the state. Policemen were deployed as a precautionary measures at the Karnataka Sangha School in T.Nagar area. Transport services between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka were halted on the either side of the state borders.

The Tamil Nadu State Road Transport Corporation bus services were plied only upto Athibele in Hosur in Krishnagiri district on the Tamil Nadu side of the Karnataka border. The usually busy Attibele toll plaza on the road connecting Bengaluru to Tamil Nadu wore a deserted look.

The buses were stopped near the State border and passengers had to walk to Karnataka and take a local bus from there. Similarly buses were operated only upto the Tamil Nadu border near Sathyamangalam and in Nilgiris district.

The Karnataka State Transport Corporation buses did not operated from the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus at Koyambedu.
