JAMMU: At least thirty-seven Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySPs) are reportedly using colours/badges of Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) in violation of police rules, thus putting the police hierarchy system of State in discomfiture.
As per highly-placed sources in police, in view of the outright violation of police rules, the Police Headquarters (PHQ) took the cognizance and sought report from the Director Prosecution.
Official sources said that a circular was issued by the PHQ in which it was mentioned that those SPs (in the pay band of Rs 6600) who have completed their 15 years of service in police department would be eligible to wear collar lapel/badges and ranks as worn by a SSP.
The said circular was issued by then DGP K Rajindera keeping in view of the shortage of the SSP cadre in the Jammu and Kashmir Police Force.
Sharing details, the sources further said that presently, the JKP has only three confirmed SSPs these including Sunil Dut (presently posted at Governor House ), Ramesh Jalla (SSP Crime Branch) and Manohar Singh (Commandant IRP 14).
Sources said that some non-confirmed DySPs (OPG) also followed the circular of PHQ and wore the collar badges and ranks of SSP. These DySPs are still in the pay band of Rs 5400, said authoritative sources.
"These (OPG) DySPs are either to be confirmed or demoted by the government within six months, but till date nothing has been done by the Home Department so far," lamented a senior police officer.
"That the circular has been misused, was realized by the PHQ when complaints started pouring in from SSPs stating that battalions in the JKP are in confusion as their Commandants are SSPs and Deputy Commandants are also SSPs", said another senior police officer, on anonymity.
"As resentment started brewing within cadre about violation of hierarchy in police force, the PHQ sought reports from Director Prosecution, a police officer said further adding while the report was being prepared, the Director Prosecution Pawan Kumar got superannuation, adding, the fact finding report is still in his office.
