Stone pelting leaves 3 cops injured during eviction drive at Nikki Tawi

JAMMU: Three police officials including an Assistant Sub Inspector received injuries in stone pelting which took place at Niki Tawi by the encroachers who resisted the anti encroachment drive launched by the district administration.
The encroachers started pelting stone on the revenue officers including Additional District Commissioner, Law and Order and Tehsildar who were present on the occasion when they tried to remove the encroachment.
Here it needs to mention that eviction drive was started after district administration received complaints that one Mohd Shafi in violation of court's order had erected a structure on the state land.
"Tehsildar concerned had issued eviction notice to Mohd Shafi but he did not mend his ways following which demolition drive was launched", said ADC Law and Order Arun Manhas.
Reports said that following no response from encroacher, ADC Jammu Arun Manhas along with SDPO Bakshi Nagar , SHO Nowabad along with Police nafri reached at Niki Tawi and started demolish drive by using JCB machine.
While the anti encroachment drive was in progress, the women and some youths from the said area resisted the drive and started pelting stone on police and revenue officers resulting injuries to three cops.
Later, additional police force from District Police Line (DPL) was called for reinforcing the police which further triggered ding dong battle between encroachers and police for some time.
To disperse the stone palters police resorted to teargas shells. However, the illegal structure finally was razed to ground by the anti encroachment team.
Meanwhile the injured cops including Incharge Police Post Canal Road Sub Inspector Neelam Saini were hospitalized.
Later, based on the complaint of the ADC Jammu Nowabad police lodged a case FIR no.170 u/s 147, 149, 353, 332 RPC against the encroachers namely Mohd Shafi, his wife Noor Begum and their son and unknown stone peters.
