JAMMU: The sky had fallen over Mohammad Yunus (41) of Mendhar in Poonch this May when after being rushed to premier Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) Jammu for some severe pain in lower abdomen, the consulting doctors after putting him on radio diagnostic and other clinical tests, broke the odd news that he had only 'one kidney.' Following the radio diagnostic tests, the consulting doctors asked him to seek second opinion and referred him to consult the doctors at Nephrology Department, Super Specialty Hospital (SSH) Jammu for further medicare. Surprised over the weird news broke to him, a hapless Mohd Yunus went to SSH Jammu where the clinical and the radio-diagnostic tests were again conducted which vindicated that the patient had only one kidney. However during his medical investigations the patient also revealed that he never had undergone any surgery, and following doctor's advice he moved to Jalandhar's famous Kidney Hospital & Lifeline Medical Institution.
Mohd Yunus who knowing the fact that he had never went under knife, wanted the detailed medical investigations at advanced stage to reconfirm whether the doctors at GMC&H Jammu and SSH Jammuu were 'Godly or not'. To his shocker, even at the Jalandhar's premier kidney hospital, in his tests, it appeared that the man was surviving with only one kidney, that too with some infection. "When I consulted the Jalandhar's hospital staff about total expenditure for getting the 'only kidney' treated with repeated dialysis and medicines, I felt helpless because I am poor man and I had not much in my pocket," Mohammad Yunus told The News Now, adding, "I came back to Mendhar to live at God's mercy." He said when his condition deteriorated further, on someone's advice; he consulted Dr Rajan Issac MD, DM (Nephro) (AIIMS), a senior consultant of Ludhiana who also holds an OPD in Jammu for the patients in Jammu and its surroundings. The senior doctor of Ludhiana again put Mohammad Younus on some diagnostic tests and after that he also confirmed 'Mohd Yunus's solitary Kidney too is infected at Stage-V.' "I was given some droplets, medicines and asked to get the dialysis done immediately to save my life," lamented ailing Mohd Yunus. "Accordingly, I agreed to whatever doctor prescribed," he said, adding,
"the total cost of dialysis and medicines I bore was Rs 10,000. Believe me, it was out of my budget but I borrowed money from some sources."
He said that after he felt little improvement in his health, on another advice, he consulted an ayurvedic doctor at Paloura area of the Jammu district.
"The Ayurvedic doctor asked me to get the ultrasound test done empty-stomach. I got the tests done from GMC&H Jammu and I really am failing to have words how lively I felt when the doctor brought the good news to me-'Don't worry. You have two kidneys.'
"But he told me that there was certain level of infection in both the kidneys," Yunus told The News Now.
Later, he said, "I was told by the Ayurvedic doctor that there was certainly some infection but that would be treated with his medicines."
"So, I continued to take Ayurvedic medicines for around a month and I felt little improvement in my health," he said.
He added that around five days back, he again consulted doctors at Super Specialty Hospital Jammu, where a doctor turned to him as 'angel in white apron' who got majority of tests done free of cost and that too in emergency.
"After tests, the doctors at SSH, Jammu also confirmed that I have two kidneys but they need dialysis.
"I am ready for dialysis but I am happy that I am as normal as others, as I too have two kidneys," ailing Mohd Yunus said with a sense of optimism.
