Mercury dips as Jammu region's higher reaches receive season's first snowfall

BHADERWAH: A week after valley received the first snowfall of the season, the mercury in Jammu region also experienced a slight dip as the higher reaches of Bhaderwah witnessed the season's first snowfall on Sunday, signaling the onset of winter season.
With moderate showers, lightening and winds, people in Bhaderwah town of Doda district had something to cheer about on Sunday as weather took a sudden turn, owing to season's first snowfall in higher reaches including Kailash Kund and Sonbhai.
While the temperature plunged considerably in the area, the dip in mercury was also noticeable in the other parts of the region, giving signs of arrival of the winter season.
As per the details pouring in, moderate rainfall was witnessed in the evening hours which continued for over one hour bringing an end to the month long dry period.
Besides rainfall, wind and lightening also gave a dramatic turn to the weather in some areas .
Over the past two days, the weather in Bhaderwah is experiencing change and cold at dawn and dusk has increased, as a result of snow in higher reaches.
Meanwhile, people in Bhadewrah and other parts of the erstwhile Doda district have started preparations for upcoming winter season which stretches up to February ending from November and the residents of plains are donning sweaters and jackets to fight cold.
Last week, famous ski-resort of Gulmarg witnessed seasons first snowfall along with upper reaches of Sonmarg, resulting in drop in temperature especially during morning and evening.
