Homage paid to martyrs across state, Nirmal pays tribute in Jammu

SRINAGAR/JAMMU: As Chief Minister skipped the Police Commemoration Day function in Srinagar, it was Revenue and Relief Minister Abdul Rehman Veeri who attended the parade as the chief guest at J&K Armed Police Complex Zewan, an event marking the remembrance of the brave police personals who sacrificed their lives in safeguarding the sovereignty and territory of the India.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh took salute of parade at homage paying ceremony organised in Jammu to mark the occasion, in presence of Minister of State for Tourism and Education Priya Sethi, Legislators Romesh Arora,Vikram Randhawa, G.L Raina, Krishan Lal, Gagan Bhagat, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Dr M K Bandhari, IGP Jammu S.D.S Jamwal, Deputy Commissioner Jammu Kumar Rajeev Ranjan besides senior officers, local representatives, veterans along with family members and relatives of the martyrs.
Lauding the role of the Jammu and Kashmir Police in meeting challenges in the state, Veeri on Saturday asked the force to adopt a more humanitarian approach when dealing with people.
Veeri said the police force was "one of the best" in the country.
"You have taken on many roles successfully and people have a lot of expectation from you. You should adopt a (more) humanitarian approach when dealing with common people," he said.
Veeri, the chief guest at the parade, said Mufti could not attend the event as she was not well.
Deputy Speaker of Legislative Assembly Nazir Ahmad Gurezi, former chief minister Omar Abdullah, Minister of State for Forest Mir Zahoor, senior civil administration and police officers attended the parade.
Veeri recalled the role of the police force in disaster management, saying the rescue operations carried out by them during the 2014 flooding were "appreciated by one and all".
The police force has a multi-dimensional role and it should be prepared and trained for varied challenges, he said.
Later, they paid floral tributes to the fallen police personnel at the police martyrs' memorial.
