JAMMU: Maharaja Hari Singh's son, Dr Karan Singh has expressed his anguish for the government not declaring Maharaja's birthday as a state holiday.
In a letter, Dr Karan Singh who served as Sadr-i-Riyasat and also the first governor of state, hit out at the coalition government, asserting that its decision to ignore the long-pending public demand of declaring holiday on Maharaja's birth anniversary has deeply hurt Jammu region's sentiments.
"I am deeply disappointed that despite a widespread and long-standing public demand throughout Jammu region for a public holiday on the occasion of the birth anniversary of my respected father, Maharaja Hari Singh Ji, the J&K government has chosen to ignore this thus, deeply hurting the sentiments of the people of Jammu region," he said.
"If Kashmir's sentiments are respected by making Sheikh Abdulkill's birthday a public holiday, there is no reason why Jammu's sentiments should not be equally respected. This does not bode well for the unity and welfare of the state," Dr Singh said.
