To boost the production of eggs in the state, the West Bengal Government has decided to start incentive schemes for rearing chicken and ducks, including an one-time subsidy of up to Rs 8 lakh. Bengal currently has a production of 1.7 crore eggs per day.

The State Government is eager to become self-sufficient in egg production, and hence the special incentives have been decided upon at a recent meeting. These incentives would also enable the creation of employment opportunities. For those setting up poultry farms, a large part of the amount spent on electricity and land registration would be given back in the form of incentives. Additionally, for every 10,000 chickens and/or ducks that are raised in a farm, a subsidy of Rs 8 lakh would be provided.
