3 militants killed in Gurez, army patrol party attacked in Shopian

Srinagar: The Army today foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Gurez sector of north Kashmir's Bandipora district, killing three militants.
According to a defence spokesperson, the troops noticed suspicious movement along the LoC and challenged the intruders which led to a firefight.
"An infiltration bid has been foiled in Gurez sector. Three terrorists have been killed," he said, adding the operation was in progress.
Meanwhile, in the evening, an army patrol party was fired by militants at Mantribugh in South Kashmir's Shopian district.
Militants fired upon an Army patrol party in south Kashmir's Shopian district late evening today, an official said.
"An army patrol party was fired upon by militants at Mantribugh in Shopian. However, there was no casualty," the Army official said.
The area has been cordoned off and a search operation is on, he added.
As per a news report carried on July 23, nine soldiers among 11 people were reportedly killed while 16 others injured in the incidents of cross-border firing by Pakistan along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir in the month of July.
Amid one of the worst fatalities in recent times, the month also saw over 110 livestock falling prey to incidents of shelling and firing by Pakistani army in which nearly 35 structures, including over two dozen houses were damaged along the LoC in Rajouri district alone.
In the wake of repeated firing and shelling by Pakistan, over 4,000 people from borders areas had to be shifted to safer places in the district.
