Sonia, Rahul pay tribute Kargil martyrs

Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday paid tributes to the soldiers who died in the Kargil war and said the nation is extremely proud of them and recognises the pain of their family members.

Saluting the courage and valour of the martyrs on Kargil Vijay Diwas, Sonia Gandhi said: "The Nation is extremely proud of the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifices.

"As we remember our martyrs, the sacrifices of their family members cannot be overlooked," she said in a statement.

She said that entire Nation recognises the innumerable challenges and pain of the family members, who dedicated their lives while safeguarding the sovereignty and integrity of India.

Rahul Gandhi said on Twitter: "They laid down their lives, so we may live with our heads held high. On Kargil Vijay Diwas we salute the courage and sacrifice of our bravehearts."
