Says women won't trek for potable water now

KATHUA JULY 23: In order to provide potable water to people of village Garnari in district Kathua and ease problems of women folk who had to trek miles to get water, Minister of State for Education, Technical Education, Culture, Tourism, Horticulture, Floriculture & Parks Priya Sethi today dedicated two hand pumps to the villagers.
Speaking on the occasion, Priya Sethi said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is keen to raise socioeconomic status of people especially those living in rural areas . She said that providing better amenities to the rural households is getting focused attention and hand pumps are being provided to ensure access to potable water.
The Minister said that the central and state government have initiated several welfare schemes for ensuring a better living standard of the people and it is because of provisions under various schemes aimed at rural development that we were able to sanction hand pumps to fill demand-supply gap in such areas
She instructed ADC Kathua to hold a camp in the village for enrollment of eligible households under Ujwalla Scheme. "Ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi lunched this scheme millions of people left their subsidies on cooking gas only to help poor and deserving ones, said the minister and exhorted upon the women to avail maximum benefits from the schemes like Ladli Beti, Beti Bachao Beti Padaoo and Sukanya Yojna Scheme to lead an honourable life.
Later, Priya Sethi met a number of delegations during her tour and asked ADC to make DPRs for the preservation of water pond located in the village. She also instructed to construct a bathroom near the pond for convenience of locals and also preserving waterbody from getting contaminated. Directions for posting of a regular Urdu Teacher in the Middle School were also issued.
Senior leader Mamta Singh also addressed the general public.
ADC Kathua, Dr. Bharat Bhushan, CHO Horticulture, Jeet Lal, SDM, Sohan Lal Sharma, Executive Engineer, Ground Water Drilling Division and others were present on the occasion.
