Police, culprits indulge in fight over rape case in Greater Noida, 4 arrested

A major scuffle broke out between police and at least half a dozen scoundrels today morning in connection with a two-month-old rape and murder case in Gautambudh Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh. One of the criminals suffered bullet injury while three of his companions were arrested by the police. Two of them managed to escape under cover of darkness. The injured has been admitted to Delhi's Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.

Those in custody have been identified as Raju, Rakesh, Jai Singh and Deepak and owe allegiance to Bawariya gang. According to senior Police Superintendent of Gautambudh Nagar, Lov Kumar, some miscreants had attacked a family which was returning after attending a function two months ago in Jeevan area of Greater Noida. In the incident, the offenders had killed one person and raped the women car occupants.

The police today morning, around 0300 hours, got a clue that some members of the Bawariya gang would be coming in the Greater Noida area. Immediately, the police cordoned off the area. Seeing themselves gheraoed by the police, the culprits fired in self-defence. In retaliatory firing by the police, one criminal got shot in the leg and was admitted to the hospital. After the tussle, four of the criminals are now in police net whereas two absconded in the darkness. Police is patrolling the area to nab those who escaped from police's clutches.
